ABOUT (UPDATED 4.3.09!)
the origin of titansphere
I’m often asked “Why titansphere?” What’s that mean?
It’s really quite simple. Titan is my ‘gamer tag’ (the name I use when I need one in a video game). Sphere I equate to a 3D globe, like our planet. Therefore, put together, titansphere loosely translates to my world.
about me
- I am a gamer. I love all things video games.
- I have dated my boyfriend, Eric, for almost 10 years. We started dating when I was 16.
- I like it when its so cold outside that when you breathe in, you feel a million little icicles stab your lungs.
- Amaretto in hot chocolate is really good.
- I don’t like chocolate on my s’mores.
- I’m a nerd.
- We have a giant medium-sized white board in my house that’s usually covered in quotes that when taken out of context sound funny, lewd, or suggestive.
- I cuss more than I should. Shit.
- My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption.
- I love to travel. I can’t wait to wander Europe.
- I’m trying really hard to quit biting my nails. I’m doing really well right now! ~Update: I have girl hands!
- I’m a bottle blonde.
- I really am an excellent writer. I can teach you to be an excellent writer too, if you can handle your papers being covered in ink for the first few months.
- I can spout off more information about the NFL than you really want to hear.
- I wish I had learned to skateboard before I was afraid of getting hurt.
- I try to make everyone happy all of the time even though I know its not possible. Usually I make myself unhappy in the process. It’s because I can’t say no.
- SNL used to be hilarious; now I think it sucks.
- I love my 13-year-old dog. I am not prepared for him to die. Ever.
- Most of the quotes in our quotebook are by me.
- I’m afraid of heights because I’m clumsy. I fall up stairs.
- I got all A’s and was my high school’s co-valedictorian.
- I dream almost exclusively in nightmares. Thus I prefer not to remember my dreams.
- I like watching mixed martial arts.
- I used to hate art class in high school and now it’s my profession, sortof (graphic designer).
- I only recently developed a taste for fantasy and sci-fi.
- My boyfriend and I dream of having a memorabilia room where half of the room is painted in Green Bay Packers colors and the other in Denver Broncos. The floor will be a football field with respective end zones.
- Right this instant, we’re discussing whether Fruity Pebbles turns your shit into a rainbow fiesta or not.
- Speaking of cereal, I prefer the non-sugary kind because my mom did her job when I was young.
- I play Magic: The Gathering. I beat the boys.
- My coworker, Carlos, makes me laugh more often than anyone else.
- He is trying his damnedest to make me a better person. It’s a tough job. I need to thank him more often.
- I like to garden. My future gardening plans include composting, a garden, and an indoor setup too.
- I’m really glad we bought a 35 gallon fish tank rather than a 75 gallon one.
- I don’t do well with dead fish in my tank.
- I am a very jumpy person. I don’t like loud noises, except for music.
- I am a visual, hands-on learner.
- I have a near photographic memory.
- I like doing math proofs. See #6.
- I get great satisfaction from programming and design. I like that I started with a blank page and created something worthwhile from my own head. That’s partly why I like my job so much.
- I’m glad I’m an only child because the world is lucky I turned out as well as I did. Given another chance to grow up, I might have ended up in prison.
- I really like to play a lot of different types of sports.
- I wish I could ice skate so I could play hockey. Stupid weak ankles!
- I never met either of my grandpas. I wish I had.
- I’m afraid of the dark.
- I don’t like suspense.
- I believe that if you make eye contact, you should acknowledge the other person, stranger or not. Otherwise it’s rude.
- Sometimes I don’t go somewhere because I don’t like driving in Salem that much.
- My dream house has skylights, solar panels, a vaulted ceiling, a small garden, a compost pile, a rain barrel, and a walk-in closet. And of course the memorabilia room.
- I like going on country drives where the journey is the destination.
- I am a VERY picky eater.
- I have had 5 concussions.
- When someone is speaking to me, sometimes it all sounds like mush in my head and I have to pause to decipher it. This happens especially when there’s background noise. But my hearing is just fine, and I’m very aware of tertiary sounds around me. It’s like autism for my ears. Watching the person’s lips helps a lot.
- I like aggressive music.
- I am uber-flexible. Uber.
- Without my glasses/contacts, the big E on the vision chart is nonexistent. Along with everything else.
- I have a degree in computer science and a minor in math.
- My shower/bathtub has fish in it.
- I love to read.
- Calvin and Hobbes is my all-time favorite comic strip.
- I don’t have a hero/idol because I don’t believe in any one person that much. I’d rather just look for the best in everyone and piece that together.
- Someday I want to own snowmobiles and regularly use them.
- I’m not ready for kids yet, but when I am I think I’d also like to adopt or be a foster parent.
- I wish some of the stupid things we used to get away with as kids weren’t crimes as adults.
- I like to paint with acrylics. In my style I’m not that bad, either.
- My knowledge about famous people is less than adequate and I have no intention of correcting it.
- I believe in questioning authority. Just because they are in charge doesn’t mean they are always right.
- I am not a good bearer of bad news. I am such a chicken.
- Offense wins games; defense wins championships!
- I sometimes still think about my teacher/coach/advisor, Michelle Dahlberg, who was my mentor in high school. I measured my success in her eyes, and I’m so very thankful for all of her guidance.
- I once slept through a fire alarm in a college dorm when our high school basketball team went to a camp at Chadron State in Nebraska.
- I wake up 20 minutes before I leave for work.
- I don’t always like performing maintenance on my vehicles, but when I do I’m always proud of myself and have a great feeling of accomplishment.
- I’m a night owl; in a perfect world, I wouldn’t have to be alive until after 10am.
- Rainbow Brite is my all-time favorite cartoon. When I was little I put on my new dress my mom had made me just before the show came on so that I could show her. (She loved it.)
- I also really used to like Popples.
- I read Money magazine cover to cover every month.
- There are many home furnishings that I think look cool but would never want in my house.
- Texture is a big thing for me. I like soft things like silk or velvet and have since birth. My mom says I used to rub her earlobe when I was breastfeeding. Sometimes I reach out and touch things just to feel what they feel like.
- I do not make big purchases well, even when I know they are coming. When we bought our TV and surround sound system, I literally had an elevated heartbeat and my face paled. I even had to regulate my breathing. Eric says I handled it well though, all things considered.
- I check my email at least 10 times in a normal day.
- As a certified Rescue SCUBA Diver I can give you CPR while swimming you to safety.
- I like to bake but not to cook. When I’m hungry I want to eat now, dammit!
- I think being a linguist/translator would be a very rewarding career, and I would be very proud of myself if I were multilingual.
- Some car air fresheners make me gag…vanilla and pine are the absolute worst.
- I still slide and dive when I need to in rec league slowpitch softball. I’m a little competitive that way.
- I believe if you’re going to put forth any effort, you should put forth your best effort.
- I eat about 1 bag of sunflower seeds per week.
- I believe there’s nothing better on a beautiful spring day than puttering around in my garden/flower beds.
- Oregon has made an environmentalist out of me.
- I believe most people who take daily medication to mask symptoms could prevent them through behavior modification.
- I am very good at improvisation and adapting to changing conditions, which is a big part of why I like Burn Notice so much.
