nascar

Can someone please explain to me the allure of watching a group of vehicles drive in a circle for over 4 hours? Really…I’m not trying to put down the most watched sport in America; I’m just trying to understand NASCAR.

Honestly to me it seems like a big waste of natural resources – then again, I live in Oregon, a VERY environmentalist state. High-performance engines running at 200mph for 500 miles aren’t exactly earth-friendly. Neither are the vast amounts of oil and rubber necessary to keep these machines performing at their peak. Furthermore, as crude oil reserves start to run dry, it seems silly to me to use so much of such an essential (at this point), non-renewable resource on entertainment.

Please, share your thoughts.

My thought is that compared to the millions of vehicles in operation every day, a few thousand (that would include the non-big time drivers) Nascar cars really don’t exacerbate the problem quite that much.

Plus, the “Car of Tomorrow”, introduced last year is slightly more env. friendly. (and much safer).

How do I know this? Do I watch Nascar? It’s sometimes the only thing on that’s entertaining in HD ;) And I loves me some hot HD action. The wrecks are spectacular :)
