cheap knockoffs rock

I’m a big fan of LEGOs, but I’m really a fan of their cheap knockoffs (Megabloks, etc.). This is because the LEGO brand has in recent years introduced too many specialized pieces to make cool looking finished products and they also charge an arm and a leg. Note: Megablocks and LEGOs can be mixed.

Example: LEGO puts out a Pirates of the Caribbean ship with pirates. Its got less than 200 pieces and costs about $100, whereas the Megabloks equivalent had over 400 pieces and cost about $30.

The point being, I really like my cheap knockoff pirate ship. Its badass…has an anchor and pirates with weapons and plastic sails and actual thread and cannons. Its on display in my living room with all of the other action figures.

how many people is too many?

Life is changing again at work…Brant (my new limey) is transferring out of graphics into our IT position. Its a gradual thing, but he should be completely out by March 1st. I’m really going to miss him (though he’ll still be around, not totally gone) because of conversations like this we had today:

Brant:  …blah blah blah (I forget what he was saying)…an orgy at my neighbor’s house tonight.

Me: *whips head around* Huh? Did you say orgy?

Brant: *laughing* Yes, I did…

Brant then goes on to say that his neighbors have a roommate whose girlfriend (friend with benefits?) asked if she could bring in another girl, which escalated into a “couples” orgy somehow.

Brant: Yes, and apparently there’s so much interest that its being split into 3 sessions!

Me: Are you serious???? How many people are there? (By this time I’m nearly crying I’m laughing so hard)

Brant: I don’t know! That’s the question…how many people is too many? When do you decide an orgy is “full?”

Me: I dunno…maybe like 10 or 12 if its couples? Maybe it depends on the size of the room?

Brant: Yeah, I guess they have a whole bunch of air mattresses and a futon mattress and a spare bed mattress covering the floor in the guy’s room. Its a decent size room.

We continue discussing this for awhile, exploring the funnier aspects of this idea and wishing we could get a camera in the room not for the sexual experience but for the human interest…how does something like this start? Are there icebreaker games? Snacks? Beverages? Acid? And how does it end? Part of the “rules” is that everyone has to go home. When is it “over?”

But, the real question of the day is, how many people until the orgy is “full?”

playing auto mechanic

In my spare time lately I’ve been helping my roommate, who now works at my place of work (we rarely see each other there), fix his 1994 Geo Metro. Carpooling in his car will cost me about 1/4 of what I pay now in gas…not only does it get ridiculous gas mileage, we also switch off whose turn it is to pay. I’m stoked.

Unfortunately, the beast doesn’t run just yet and he has no income (until he gets paid at the end of this month) and no reserves. Typical roomie. So I’ve agreed to front the cash until he gets on his feet – I’d rather pay for this than his rent and utilities!

Anyway, it needed two new tires – check. And a new window – some punks threw a rock through it about 2 months ago. Check. We just installed one from the junkyard this evening. He lost the Montana title, so he sent off to get a new one. He needs plates, registration, an Oregon title, and a new battery terminal connection…oooh, fun…a trip to the DMV. What else? Oh yeah, probably all new fluids. *sigh* Maybe rent isn’t that expensive after all.

escargot anyone?

I thought the snail eggs in my tank were eaten and long gone; I was wrong. Today as I was cleaning the tank (30 gallons) I found a bunch of tiny snails! They have yellow shells and are about double the size of the end of a ballpoint pen. How exciting, that is until I find that I have 200 in my tank! Perhaps the pet store will buy them back…

2008 nfc championship or bust!

The Pack are headed to the NFC Championship game with a rout of Seattle: 42-20! After a miserable first 3 minutes where we handed the Seahawks a 14-point lead, we pwned ‘em the rest of the game, scoring 6 consecutive touchdowns and holding them to 2 field goals.

Go Pack Go!!!

georgie update

George’s rear axle had been sloppy the last few months, so we took him to the vet. Here’s the verdict:

The sloppiness is due to a series of bone spurs along his back that are pinching nerves in his legs, limiting his use of them. Also, instead of a rounded femur in the hip joint, he’s got a series of knuckly bumps. We could potentially get him two hip replacement surgeries (eeek! Like I could afford two hip surgeries for myself!) or just give him an anti-inflammatory pill daily. We chose the latter, and it seems to help. He’s not back to perfect, but he does seem to regain some strength and stability with the pills. We’ve also got pain medication, and although he doesn’t appear to be in any pain, we give them to him daily in half-doses as well to alleviate any aches he may have.

George doesn’t seem to be bothered with this problem at all. He is the same old happy George and he doesn’t let this condition get in his way. He still loves walks, though we have to take shorter ones now, he still runs after his ball, and he still jumps around happily when he’s going out with his peeps. What a trooper.

what’s cool

Y’know what’s cool?

Since we’ve been home from our holiday trip (late Dec. 30), my alarm clock has been blinking a random time and I haven’t bothered to fix it. Who needs to know the time when it doesn’t matter what time it is because there’s nowhere to be?

That’s cool.

happy 2008

Happy New Year!

We are ringing in 2008 with our friends in Oregon (we made it safely home and hopefully soon I’ll have some pics up of how bad the roads were in Idaho).

We have far too much food here and far too much drink too! *grin* Jen rented a really fun Wii game that I’ll talk about when I collect my thoughts about it. Soooo much fun…a blast for parties and entertaining to even the most n00bie gamer. My arms are still tired from the workout – its LOTS of movement. Go Wii!

May the new year be good for all of you!
