nearly lost
*sigh of relief* I very nearly lost this entire site. Instead, I lost 2 posts and a few comments. Slightly upsetting, but a far cry from devastated.
What happened? I’m updating my design site: design.titansphere.com. Included in the upgrade was introducing a blog…well, as I was installing said blog, something (not sure what yet) went wrong and the new blog files got saved over this blog. Even my backup file was saved errently or just completely over…again, still checking on the root of the problem. Luckily, I have a great host – bluehost. In less than 15 minutes at 9pm PST on a Sunday night, my account was restored from their weekly backup.

Someday I hope to use this quote from my lawnmower-racing coworker:
1 comment“I should just pour diesel fuel over myself and go to bed.”
the elder scrolls iv: oblivion
I really can’t believe I’ve neglected to post about Oblivion thus far. We’ve had it for months, obsessed over it for months, spent hundreds of hours playing it and yet nary a word written.
Oblivion is the XBox 360 sequel to Morrowind, an open-ended, first-person RPG. What an upgrade! This game is literally one of the best RPGs I’ve ever played. The graphics are awesome, the gameplay rocks, the menus are well laid out and easy to use, and its very, very difficult to run out of places to explore, quests to conquer, and, in general, things to do, although I’ve heard once you conquer the main quest the interest level takes a dive. A good option, however, is to start another character! With such a wide variety of character races, styles, personalities, and interests, I’ve already created another (completely different) character in my head for playing once I’m done with my current one.
Drawbacks? Well, they’re pretty few and far between, but here’s a list:
- Creating a new character takes a LONG time. Expect to spend at least 45 minutes the first time and 30 subsequent times unless you’ve planned out absolutely every little detail about the making of the character. Spending hours on character creation isn’t unheard of.
- Oblivion is not a quick game. If you’re looking to conquer it quickly, play Fable instead.
- My roommate experienced the game not allowing him to complete a certain task required to conquer the main quest.
- One of the Ayleid ruins is missing its statue. You must download the patch to find it. Not having this statue makes this quest as well as completing all of the Ayleid ruins quests nigh impossible to finish.
Really, do play this game (A LOT) if you’re into RPGs. You won’t be disappointed, but your skin may pale, you may forget to eat/sleep, and your friends & relations may feel abandoned. This game is like crack.
No commentsfunny signs
I saw these signs on my recent travels and thought perhaps you too would get a laugh out of them.
- There’s room for all of God’s creatures…right next to the mashed potatoes.
- Litter and it will hurt.
- Hardship. Struggle. Gunfights. Bring the kids.
shame on me
Alas, it has been nearly a month since I’ve posted. Shame on me. I’ve just returned (quite literally – I’ve been home about 20 minutes) from our annual 4th of July road trip to Montana, though, so I hope to regurgitate the memorable weekend in a worthy post or two. Three 10-hour workdays will undoubtedly impede my progress, but perhaps I’ll find a few minutes between work and sleep to record the event.
In the meantime, go see Cars or The Da Vinci Code.
