Ahoy, matee!
Yesterday I was bad. I spent money I don’t have on entertainment, namely Sid Meier’s Pirates! Live the Life. Originally released in 1987, Pirates! has crossed multiple game genres as well as game consoles.
The game is a lot of fun. Its an open-ended RPG set in the Caribbean in the mid-late 1600s, although age is factored into the gameplay and therefore retirement (or death) is imminent. The only major drawback of the game thus far is the lack of ability to alter the controls, which I imagine are fine for a desktop computer as they use the number pad. On a laptop, however, the mouse is the only form of control, which makes dancing with the ladies a real bitch and sword dueling a minor annoyance. The rest of the game, however, makes up for the controls.
Overall, I give it 3.5 stars. Its certainly not worth dropping everything to rush to the store, but the entertainment value and price ($29.99) make Pirates! a game to look into.

I made great strides today in understanding this php stuff – titansphere.com now has a custom graphic and another set of links and I feel as though I can partially understand the underlying code. When I get off my lazy duff and get some pictures off of my camera, I will post some observations and pictures from SIGGRAPH 2005. Even later to come will be an account and pictures of my summer road trip to Montana for the 4th of July as most of my pictures are stuck in Roundup (MT). Also, I’m aiming to include Salem Traffic Stories, a rant on the horrific driving conditions I live in and finally, tell someone about the damned thing so I’m not talking to myself!
By the way, HIRE ME! I need a job.
